Inspiration

The Colours of Christmas began with both.

The poem was written in response to the winter landscape as it gathers itself around December. Berries holding their red against the frost. Pine and ivy keeping their deep greens through silent snow. The soft gold of low winter sunlight glinting across frozen ground. These colours have long been part of the quiet language of Christmas in England.

What began as a simple meditation on the natural palette of winter grew into a reflection on the feeling of the season itself. Warmth in the cold. Stillness in the dark. A sense of hope held in the evergreen. These small moments of light and colour became the foundation for the artwork, and ultimately the silk piece you see here.

Red as berries in the cold,
As embers soft, as robins bold.
A glow that warms the frozen air,
And lights the heart of winter there.

Green as pine through silent snow,
As ivy’s climb where cold winds blow.
A promise kept through dark and deep,
That life still breathes though earth may sleep.

Gold as sun on frosted ground,
As starlight where the peace is found.
The world adorned in hush and grace,
And Christmas shines through nature’s face.
