The Quiet Knowing of the Land: A Poem of Nature’s Timeless Wisdom
Share
A Poem Inspired by England’s Landscape and Rural Spirit
There is a deep and quiet wisdom woven into the English countryside—a rhythm older than words, carried in the whisper of the wind, the flow of rivers, and the patient stillness of stone. Nature does not rush, yet everything unfolds in perfect time.
Written by Nick Thackray, Creative Director of Thackray, "The Quiet Knowing of the Land" captures this ancient rhythm in poetic form. Inspired by England’s rolling fields, whispering woodlands, and the eternal cycle of life, the poem speaks to our connection with the land. It reminds us that while footsteps may fade, the earth holds memory; that in touching the soil, we listen to the heartbeat of time itself.
The Quiet Knowing of the Land
Tick, follow tock, follow tick, follow tock,
Roots press deep where the old trees lock.
Winds hum low, where the rivers talk,
Stone breathes slow, under time’s soft clock.
Tick, follow tock, follow tick, follow tock,
Footsteps fade, but the earth keeps stock.
Hands touch soil, hear the heartbeat knock,
We are dust, we are sky, we are wave on rock.
